Grrrr

How is it possible that I gain weight EVERY SINGLE DAY??? I understand that I should gain a pound a week, but I seem to gain a pound every few days. It's starting to make me feel down. Now I know yesterday was Thanksgiving and I did eat a lot for lunch, and then had pie and a snack before bed, went to bed weighing a lot and woke up weighing a lot. Then today I went shopping from 4:30 AM to 2:30 PM, lots and lots of walking and moving around. Plus I ate pretty normal and I weigh more tonight than last night when I was stuffed!

This is hard for me. When I go to my doctor's appt on Thursday I am pretty sure I will have gained 10 pounds in the last 5 weeks. My doctor is probably pretty easy going about weight gain, but I still worry about getting a lecture. My first doctor didn't want me to gain more than 20-25 pounds so he would tell me I was gaining too much and put the guilt on (I did gain 30 by the way). He said women were eating too much, gaining too much weight, having big babies and having more C-sections than were necessary. I guess it has stuck with me because now I worry about gaining too much with each subsequent pregnancy. I remember after I would weigh in with my first doctor, I would get Burger King on the way home, the only time I would dare eat that kind of fried food for fear of weighing too much!

Sorry for the rambling, I am just feeling a little frustrated and down about my weight gain, it's hard for me to deal with right now! I should probably talk to my sister-in-law who had 2 babies with this doctor and possibly gained as much as I'm gaining. Did any of you ever weigh 10 pounds at a checkup and did you doctor question it? I am especially nervous going into the holidays and having my next weigh-in in January since I know it will probably be a lot again. Makes it kind of hard to enjoy all of the sweets that are sure to head my way soon from parties and neighbors!!

Alright, I am going to eat a snack and go to bed. Maybe I'll feel better in the morning or maybe I should throw away my scale.

Well, I've hit 20....

So, I've finally hit 20 pounds. My doctor is determined to stick with the March 17th due date so that means I am 22 weeks tomorrow. I don't think I'll follow the trend to only gain 30 pounds with this baby like I did with Timmy and Allie. That's okay, I don't really mind but I hope to not go too much over the recommended 35 pounds. I think I'll be bummed if I gain more than 40 but I'm hoping with only 18 weeks to go that I will stay under 20 additional pounds. If I gain a pound a week, I'll be around 38 and that's okay with me. Well, here's to good eating and I certainly eat a lot these days!!

After vacation weigh in

Well, if anyone has followed me on Facebook, you know my trip to California was full of eating out but also full of throwing up and illness. When I left I weighed around 159 and this morning I was at 158.0. It's not too surprising that I lost weight after feeling so crappy for days and eating hardly any sugar. My doctor's appt to weigh in is on Thursday but I know I've still gained more than the recommended 4 pounds for 4 weeks, oh well.

On the plus side, we find out what we are having on Thursday also, yay!

My body has a mind of its own

Gaining weight for pregnancy has been hard on me this time. I still never want to gain any weight and while it happens, I still don't like it. I especially don't like it when my body decides to gain a lot in a short amount of time instead of really gradually. For example, when I woke up on Tuesday I weighed in around 153.2 like I had been for a while. Now today, only 3 days later, I weigh 155. I went up 1.8 pounds in just 3 days! I keep feeling like this is temporary but I have a feeling it's not and the baby just must be growing or I'm growing larger besides just baby weight :)

Anyway, that's all for now. I am still shooting to only gain 30-35 pounds with this baby but I don't know if I'll pull that off. If not, well, at least I know I'm not alone!

After vacation weigh in

Last week we joined our McMurray family in Jackson Hole for our annual fall vacation. We had a really fun time besides Timmy getting sick for 2 days so I spent one day of my vacation at home taking care of Tim and my brother-in-law who hurt his pelvis and couldn't really move.

I wasn't sure if I would gain weight on this trip because I knew I would eat hearty meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as snacks and most lunches included dessert as well as dinner. However, I knew we would be hiking and shopping and moving around a lot. I am pleased to announce that I actually lost weight on this trip which is a good thing because I believe I have been plugged up with constipation and finally felt like I got it under control. When I left I was 154 and this morning I was only 153.2. This is good because I know I'm going to the doctor again next week and I really didn't want to gain more than a pound a week to avoid a possible lecture.

Anyway, I still probably care too much about weight gain but it's hard to get out of this mindset when my mind was on it every day for 9 months. Plus, I am not really sure how strict my doctor is on weight gain, he probably isn't very picky but I don't really know with so few visits under my belt.

As for exercise, I did exercise on Monday and I think it may have set my back in motion to feel out of place because by Tuesday night after packing all day, I was hurting pretty good. Justin rubbed it pretty good Wed. night and it felt better the next day. I also did some good hikes with the family which was fun and exercise. Hopefully more to come this week but I have a headache this morning that I need to get under control first.

Exercise

Well, I finally started exercising again! Doctors say it can help with weight gain and even lessen morning sickness some so now that I'm feeling a little better, (well, not really) I need to do something to make me feel better. So, I pulled out my 5 mile walking video and did 30 minutes total which was just over 2 miles at an easy pace. I didn't exactly feel the nausea leave when exercising but it didn't increase either and I have felt fine afterwards so I think it will be something I now continue on a regular basis.

Hopefully it will help me gain a reasonable amount since I am on meds which make me not throw up so I am gaining more than my previous pregnancies. Oh the joys of pregnancy!

Update

Well, I was right on track to only gain 10 pounds in the first trimester, and I figured that was a good goal so that I didn't let myself gain too much, but I went a little over. I was seriously a little under 10 pounds only 2 days before 12 weeks but then I gained a pound in a day, lucky me! Oh well, I'm still hoping to not gain too much this pregnancy, but if I do, oh well. I keep going back and forth between not caring and then caring too much!

My doctor does not seem to be much of a stickler on weight gain, but his nurse seems to care more, although she has never had any kids and doesn't truly understand nausea and eating etc. Since she is the one who does my weigh-ins, I may have to listen to her lectures in the future. Who knows, maybe not but when I first went in she said I could gain between 20-30 pounds and now it's down to 15-20 after the first trimester, ya right! So, we'll see what reality is :)
